If you are someone that has been out of the dating game for some time, then you probably have a lot of worries. The dating game has changed a lot in the last decade or so and if you have been out of the dating game for that long, then it may be a bit of a shock to the system.

As of right now, the majority of dating takes place online. Most of the people that you will try to pursue romantically you will find online. That means that most of the initial discussions that you will have will be over the internet. Though for a lot of people, this may be a relief, for a lot of people it creates more worries.

Though someone may seem nice online, that is not necessarily an accurate reflection of who they are in real life. Though they may seem fun and energetic online, when it comes to the actual date, they may be awkward and uncomfortable.

If you have been on some recent dates and experienced this awkwardness, then you may be worried about any dates that you have coming up. You may have even been tempted to cancel your upcoming date, but this could get in the way of you potentially finding a lasting partner.

A great place for you to meet for your first date is a coffee house. Grabbing a coffee has no stress or pressure and coffee houses tend to have a great ambiance. This means that you can really get to know someone in a casual setting.

Here are just some techniques that you can use to make your next coffee date feel much less awkward.

Discuss a Mutual Enjoyment

If you have been talking online for a while before you met, you have probably got to know some mutual topics that you both enjoy. The worst thing that could happen on a date is that you could have nothing to talk about.

There is nothing worse than awkward silence and the person that you may be going on a date with could feel a lot of anxiety and may not start the conversation off by themselves. Instead of letting there just be an awkward silence, you can instead start instantly chatting about something you both mutually enjoy.

When I first met my current boyfriend, I had the same worry about having nothing to say. However, when we first started chatting online, something that we both said was that we both loved Chuck Norris. Because I was worried about the awkward first interaction, I instantly thought about Chuck Norris and I told my date one of his infamous jokes. The date started off with laughter and after that, the conversation just flowed and we spent hours talking about our lives and ourselves.

Go to an Interesting Location

If you are very worried about experiencing awkward silences or just general awkwardness, something that you can do is go to an interesting coffee house for your date.

Instead of going somewhere obvious like Starbucks or something similar to that, you can go to a place that is a bit more niche. This will instantly give you something that you can talk about and you will be able to get into a discussion about the place where you are, which will make thinking about other topics of conversation much easier.

If this is a coffee house that you have been to before, then you may even have some fun and interesting stories about the last time you were there that you can tell your date. If you have some funny stories about the location, then do be sure to tell them, as this will create some humor for your date.

Go to the Cat Cafe

Depending on where you live in the world, something that you have probably encountered before is a cat cafe. These cafes allow you to sit down and enjoy a drink, all while being surrounded by cute and beautiful kitties. It is hard to be in a bad mood when you are surrounded by cute cats and so you will instantly be in high spirits at the start of your date. You can also check if they like cats and if they do not, that is an instant red flag.
